Endurance

Endurance is a timed discipline in which the focus is understanding your horse’s ability and limits as well as the altering terrain of the track. The rider must ensure the excellent condition and health of their horse throughout the event which is monitored by veterinary check points. There are different classes which are determined by weight and distance. Endurance requires a lot of time in the saddle preparing for the race, both horse and rider must be fit and know the track.

While it is very competitive, Endurance is also very much a social event for riders and horses. It is easier to start competing in which is why it has become a very big family sport in South Africa. It gives friends and family a chance to ride together and enjoy the outdoors, even if they are not competing in the sport.
